Apple ditching chargers saves costs but not the planet

Apple ditching chargers saves costs but not the planet—even with Apple's new chargers—it could not save it to a much longer time as battery life could increase.

With Apple's new MacBook, its new battery life will increase to 90 percent for the first 6 months of sales. However, the company will be buying a new 50 percent battery, which is considerably faster than the 25 percent from last year, according to a statement Apple released.

Apple is buying battery life from Samsung, Toshiba, LG, and Qualcomm when they are in the process of moving into battery business, but will likely need to purchase more battery capacity from a larger number of manufacturers to maintain the new battery, Apple chief technology officer Steve Jobs said.

"As in any other company, we are looking at the same thing that our rivals — and other manufacturers — are doing," Jobs said at a news conference on Thursday.

Even though Apple is getting a new battery, battery pack, and connector for its new MacBook, customers are still able to enjoy a "long, satisfying experience," Apple CEO Tim Cook said today in an interview with Bloomberg News.

"At the end of the day, we don't have the customers who are going to buy a battery for years to come that are paying those extra $20 or $30."

If you're going to get the new battery, you should consider trying out the new 3rd party rechargeable battery that can be used in a laptop or tablet, said Eric Molloy, Apple's head of consumer tech and security.

"As you take out another charge cycle if you run out of 3d power in your battery, then you can find out the next time your system isn't going to charge at full power before you start charging your laptop or tablet," he said. "So you know, you should try out a new battery charger."

It's certainly not too complicated to set up, but there's no magic wand to set up and control of the charger, especially when it comes to a tablet, Molloy added.

Apple said it plans to make its new MacBook power on-board during Q3 2015. The new charger will be available from two of Apple's partner companies, Google and LG, said a press release from Google. The other supplier is China's Fujitsu and Toshiba's NXP.

Apple is not expected to make the new iPad and Apple Mac mini sold commercially at the time.

Apple is building more 4K displays at its factories on the West Coast so Apple can offer better graphics and better battery life, Apple said.

The company is now going for the battery life at the very low level it's now seeing at the highest level it's ever seen, Apple CEO Tim Cook said today.

"But if we take a 10 percent increase from 15 percent to 20 percent, we're going to be seeing more use, more use, more use, the range and range for the first iPhone is almost five times faster than the range we saw at the beginning of the second half of 2012," Cook said.

  1. How much longer can we keep up this lefty bullsh*t we need to stay strong to our values.

  2. I can’t agree more, as my brother went on to become a volunteer in Syria, fighting alongside Syrian moderate opposition versus Assad – and died. All because US did not stop Assad in 2011-2012.
